COMMITMENT
Sasol is committed to the continuous
improvement of energy efficiency (EnEf) across
its manufacturing operations to:
GROUP
APPROACH
Sasol applies a Group standardised Energy Management System (EnMS) aligned with ISO 50001 guidelines
across all Operating Platforms and Regional Platforms (OPs/RPs). The EnMS is embedded in daily
operations and enables monthly monitoring and reporting of energy efficiency performance.
This systematic approach supports the reduction of the carbon footprint and underpins Sasol’s long standing
commitment to energy efficiency as a key business driver.
Energy efficiency performance is improved through:
Save operating costs through reduced energy
consumption.
• Setting realistic and meaningful targets and tracking progress against these targets
• Adopting internationally recognised energy efficiency standards and best practices
• Identifying and implementing projects and initiatives to reduce energy intensity
Contain and reduce the environmental
footprint of Sasol’s operations.
Support national energy conservation
initiatives and government objectives.
PROGRAMMES AND PERFORMANCE
Support the international Energy
Productivity 100 (EP100) initiative.
Sasol has implemented a range
of programmes and initiatives
to promote energy efficiency
across the business, including:
In house information management
solutions integrated with
specialised software
A daily energy efficiency
monitoring system supporting
operational decision making
Specialised energy efficiency
training
Research and development
A significant portion of energy efficiency
initiatives focuses on technology based
solutions, including:
• Deployment of energy efficient electrical
equipment
• Efficiency improvements in heat transfer
unit operations
• Yield maximisation of production plants
to reduce energy intensity
SASOL INTEGRATED REPORT 2026
Given the complexity of Sasol’s global
operations, substantial investment has
been made in the development and
enhancement of the EnMS. Particular
emphasis has been placed on bespoke
in house IM data solutions integrated
with specialised software platforms.
The EnMS continues to evolve through
the implementation of a daily energy
efficiency monitoring system, with
future potential for artificial intelligence
(AI)-enabled analytics.
Quality assurance
Quality assurance is critical to ensuring
the accuracy, consistency and reliability of
energy efficiency performance data. Sasol
applies the King V™ combined assurance
principles to its EnMS programme.
Level 2 internal plant audits have been
completed, with revised Level 2 audit
programme currently in progress at the
South African sites. A Level 4 external
audit was conducted in FY25 and
a follow-up currently in progress. All
assurance activities are undertaken on a
100
risk-based basis, with scope and timing
aligned and formally approved at the
appropriate organisational levels.
Training
An Energy Management System
training module has been developed
and implemented on Sasol’s e Learning
platform to promote:
• Awareness of energy efficiency
practices
• Improved consistency and quality of
energy efficiency reporting across
the Group
To date, a number of operational
personnel have received specialised
energy efficiency training.
Training topics include:
• Fundamentals of energy efficiency
• Energy sources and sustainability
• Calculation methodologies
• Quality assurance
• Continuous improvement principles
