COMMITMENT
Sasol’s commitment is to ensure that the business
maintains reliable, safe, and sustainable
operations.
GROUP
APPROACH
Sasol has a structured Process Safety Management (PSM) framework designed to systematically identify, assess,
and control major hazard risks across the asset lifecycle. This framework integrates engineering design, operational
discipline, maintenance integrity, and organisational capability.
The approach to process safety is bolstered by strong governance, clear accountability, and alignment with recognised
international standards and regulatory requirements. Clear accountability for process safety is embedded at all
levels of the organisation. The Sasol leadership provides oversight of process safety performance to ensure that
Key Undesirable Events are identified, understood, and controlled.
PROGRAMMES AND PERFORMANCE
Process safety performance is
achieved through an integrated and
collaborative approach between
frontline operations and support
functions. Numerous stakeholders
actively play an integral part in ensuring
production units and equipment
are operated safely, maintained
appropriately, and task execution
by service providers conforms
to a high quality of workmanship.
Process safety is monitored through
a combination of leading and lagging
indicators aligned with recognised
industry practice. These indicators
provide insight into the health of safety
barriers, activations of safety systems,
confirmation of operational discipline,
and the robustness of asset integrity
controls and overall management
systems. Independent verification
including, first, second and third levels
of assurances are conducted to
assess compliance with standards and
processes to identify opportunities for
improvement.
The process safety incidents reported
consist of major and significant
incidents.

Major and significant process
safety incidents
FY26 process safety performance results show a significant
improvement in the number of major and significant
incidents, from 21 to 9. The FER-SR improved from 5,5 to
4,2 due to a decrease in the number of incidents which was
expected due to the SO shutdown not occurring in FY26.
There were no major process safety incidents and fatalities
caused by process safety incidents.

As part of the continued effort to ensure improvement in
process safety, Sasol conducted an independent
third-party risk-based process safety assessment across
the organisation. The purpose of this PSM Diagnostic
assessment was to understand, the Process Safety Culture,
effectiveness of the Process Safety Management system
and effectiveness of the controls to manage and mitigate
risk exposure.
Opportunities for improvement were identified during this
assessment, and improvement action plans have been put
in place.
