BRIDGE TO WORK (BTW)
Skills development plays a pivotal
role in creating sustainable
livelihoods and driving both the
formal and informal economies
globally. Targeted interventions provide
youth with core skills, technical,
vocational and work readiness training
enabling them to become selfsustainable and positive contributors
to local and national economies.
The BTW programme focuses on
the following areas:

The establishment and
growth of successful
smallholder farmers,
through integrated
support systems, from
technical learning to
access to market.
Training includes:
• Site inspection
• Hand and power tool usage
• Solar PV installation
• Inspecting and testing
• Renewable energy workshop assistant
Youth from our Sasol local communities
will be assisted to achieve applied
technology skills in order to create scalable
start-ups, build sustainable digital SMMEs
that are relevant to their community, and
secure employment where they can make a
valuable contribution.

ADMINISTRATION
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Mobilise members of the community to become
active citizens of the country’s democracy,
while earning an income and increasing their
employability. The initiative aims to scale up
opportunities for beneficiaries to contribute to
the development of their community through
providing specific services that meet priority
needs.

Focus on training to get certified motor
mechanics who will contribute to the
motor industry and be positioned to
enter the renewable energy powered
vehicle industry.
HANDYMAN PROGRAMME
(GENERAL REPAIRS AND
MAINTENANCE SERVICES)
Creating jobs and upskilling unemployed
youth in surrounding local communities with
general repair and maintenance skills.
WELDING
Training is provided to create qualified
welders who are equipped to meet the
required skill level for new and existing
projects in the Mpumalanga and Free
State provinces.
IMPACT
South Africa
In FY26, the BTW programme has successfully delivered
accredited skills development training to 1 233 beneficiaries
across high-demand sectors.
Key achievements include:
• Artisan Development and Employment Creation: In
FY26, two Motor Mechanics and 17 Welding artisans
have successfully completed their training and 10 secured
permanent employment opportunities. The first cohort in the
Welding Apprenticeship is currently undergoing workplace
training at the Secunda Plant
• The Handyman programme supported: 18 SMMEs,
sustaining 101 jobs and creating 46 new jobs
• Agricultural Incubation and Commercialisation Support:
Through the Sasol Iphepe Farmer Development Programme,
311 farmers are currently being incubated and supported
toward sustainable agricultural enterprise development,
creating an additional 139 jobs with 48 hectares under
production. Of these, 29 farmers are either commercial-ready
or nearing commercialisation, while the remaining participants
continue to receive targeted support to improve their market
readiness and productivity.
• SMME Development and Economic Participation:
The programme has supported 20 SMMEs, resulting in
the creation of 24 new jobs
• Overall Socio-Economic Impact: R92 million has
been invested through the BTW programme, supporting
1 233 beneficiaries
Key impact stories
• Asset management: An 80-hectare, 5-year municipal land
lease was facilitated for Manqoba Mokoena Municipality,
enabling the transition from subsistence to commercial scale
• Retail integration: Local spinach farmers successfully accessed
retail channels, with produce now accepted by Boxer and
Pick n Pay in Ermelo, Mpumalanga
Mozambique
• As part of the strategic intention to promote alternatives to
formal employment, Sasol donated 12 irrigation systems, under
the Local Development Agreements (LDAs). These initiatives
benefitted 360 households across the districts of Inhassoro
and Govuro, supporting vegetable production, improving food
security and generating income

• 5 Communities in Govuro benefitted from the goat breeding
programme, implemented under the LDAs as small-scale,
stand-alone project improving the livelihoods of community
members who are now actively engaged in this activity
• The first phase of the AMASUA Horticulture Project was
successfully completed, benefitting 35 households, including
small-scale farmers, young graduates, and families. The
initiative strengthened food security, enhanced agricultural
skills, and created sustainable livelihood opportunities,
contributing to greater economic resilience within local
communities
North America
• Sasol is one of the largest corporate supporters of the
Louisiana Small Business Development Center at McNeese
State University. Through Sasol’s support, small business
owners and entrepreneurs are able to access no-cost, oneon-one confidential counselling, market research, and business
training
• In FY26, the centre trained 490 clients through 56 training
sessions, enabled 37 business starts, and created 151 new jobs
