Sasol has been a leading supporter of women’s
football in South Africa for many years and its
longstanding partnership with the South African
Football Association (SAFA) remains grounded in a
shared commitment to advancing women’s football
and investing in its full potential. Central to this
commitment is the mission to empower young women.
Sasol Banyana Banyana
During the reporting period, Sasol continued its
longstanding partnership with Banyana Banyana,
reaffirming its commitment to the growth of women’s
football in South Africa through the renewal of its
sponsorship for a further four-year cycle, 2025 –
2029. The renewed partnership reinforces Sasol’s
role in advancing gender equality in sport, developing
women athletes and strengthening the global
competitiveness of The Senior National Women’s Team.
The team’s participation across international
competitions and friendly matches continued to
strengthen squad depth, elevate performance
standards and enhance South Africa’s presence
in women’s football on the African continent and
internationally.
Sasol’s partnership with Banyana Banyana supported
the team’s preparations for WAFCON 2026, following
their successful qualification, after defeating the
Democratic Republic of Congo over two legs. As
part of their preparation programme, Banyana Banyana
played international friendlies against Morocco in
November and December 2025, Algeria in April 2026
and Japan in June 2026, providing valuable international
competition ahead of the tournament.
Wheelchair basketball
Sasol’s collaborative partnership with Wheelchair
Basketball South Africa is dedicated to developing
high-performance athletes by empowering differently
abled individuals to represent South Africa, globally.
The sponsorship further underscores Sasol’s
commitment to driving inclusivity for a better, more inclusive
sporting world.
During the year, South African men’s and women’s teams
competed at the inaugural IWBF 3x3 Open World
Championships in Sun City in August 2025, the first IWBF
World Championship hosted on African soil. In March 2026,
the senior men’s team secured qualification for the 2026
Commonwealth Games 3x3 wheelchair basketball
competition, while both senior national teams competed at
the 2026 IWBF Africa Championships in Luanda, Angola,
where the men’s and women’s teams both finished as
African Championship runners-up.
In addition, the Sasol #LiveTheImpossible tournament
served as a key platform for talent identification and
selection of Senior Men’s and Women’s National
Teams, elevating performance standards and maintaining
South Africa’s competitive edge on the African continent.
Sasolburg marathon
The marathon reached a record-breaking turnout of 3 600
athletes in 2026, stimulating the local economy and
promoting community cohesion.
Mozambique
Three community soccer fields were completed and handed
over in Mozambique, two in Govuro and one in Inhassoro
District. Construction of a multi-sports complex in Govuro is
underway, expanding access to recreational infrastructure,
promoting youth participation in sport and strengthening
community wellbeing.
Building credibility through performance
