COMMITMENT
Sasol advances economic inclusion by enabling
industrial growth that supports its business
transformation and strengthens the resilience of
the regions in which it operates. Sasol, through
the Shared Value and Socio-Economic Industrial
Projects (SV and SEIP) function, drives economic
diversification by supporting enterprises and
industries across both existing and emerging
value chains.
By catalysing industrial ecosystems, SV and SEIP
contributes to Sasol’s long-term value creation
through stronger local value chains, industrial
capability development and enhanced regional
competitiveness.
Strategic role
SV and SEIP supports Sasol’s strategy
by identifying and enabling commercially
viable industrial opportunities that deliver
both business value and socio-economic
impact. These initiatives strengthen local
industrial capability while unlocking new
growth pathways.
PROGRAMMES AND PERFORMANCE
SV and SEIP continues to advance a portfolio of projects across
feasibility, pilot and scale-up stages, unlocking new economic
opportunities while leveraging Sasol’s assets, technical expertise
and partnerships.
This work contributes to the development
of multiple forms of capital, including
financial, manufactured, intellectual,
human, social and natural capital.

Opportunity identification
FOCUS AREAS
The SV and SEIP portfolio focuses on industrial
opportunities that support economic diversification
and sustainable growth, including:
Battery energy storage system value chains
Circular economy solutions
Ecosystem orchestration
Sustainable agriculture
Collaboration is coordinated across
industry, government, development
finance institutions, research organisations
and communities to enable effective project
execution and scale.
Localisation of industrial inputs and materials
These initiatives support the development of new
industrial clusters, strengthening manufactured
capital through new productive capacity, building
human capital through enterprise capability and skills
development, and creating financial value through
localised economic activity.
SV and SEIP supported the initiative by facilitating access to coal ash feedstock,
supporting market access, mobilising partnerships and securing funding through
the Sasol Siyakha Trust. Leveraging the Trust’s expanded mandate, R1,72 million
was approved to establish a production facility in Secunda and scale operations.
Localisation enablement
Partnerships, funding mechanisms and
market pathways are mobilised to support
localisation and enterprise participation in
emerging value chains.
Renewable energy value chains
Groovetech, a black women-owned enterprise, has developed a
pothole repair solution using recycled plastics combined with Sasol
coal ash. The product has been scientifically validated and commercially
proven through collaboration with technical partners and municipalities.
Targeted value chain research identifies
sectors aligned with Sasol’s strategic
priorities and evolving industrial
opportunities.
This initiative demonstrates how circular economy solutions can convert industrial
waste streams into commercially viable products while supporting enterprise
growth, infrastructure solutions and local employment.
Creating shared value
Through collaboration with industry, government, development finance institutions
and research partners, SV and SEIP accelerates the development of inclusive
industrial ecosystems that support Sasol’s growth and transformation agenda.
All initiatives are assessed through a
project selection framework evaluating
strategic alignment, commercial viability,
funding readiness, localisation potential
and socio-economic impact.
SASOL INTEGRATED REPORT 2026
By linking economic inclusion with industrial development, these initiatives
strengthen financial, manufactured, intellectual, human, social and natural capital,
creating sustainable shared value for Sasol and the communities in which it operates.
