SAFETY, SOCIAL AND ETHICS COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN’S STATEMENT CONTINUED
Reiterating safety ambition of zero harm and
embedding learnings from fatalities
Our people – building capability, inclusion and
workforce resilience
Sasol’s unwavering commitment to the safety and wellbeing of
our people and service providers remains central to our values
and a foremost priority. The two tragic fatalities during the year
underscored the importance of unwavering discipline, leadership
accountability and consistent adherence to critical controls and
Life Saving Rules, reinforcing the Committee’s focus on learning
from incidents and strengthening safety performance. The
Committee devoted significant attention to understanding the
root causes of these incidents, monitoring the implementation
of corrective actions, and ensuring that lessons learned are
systematically embedded across the Group and among our
service providers. Our focus remains on strengthening safety
culture, reinforcing operational discipline and translating learnings
into sustained improvements that reduce risk and support our
commitment to ensuring that every person returns home safely,
every day.
A capable, engaged and diverse workforce enables Sasol’s longterm success. During the year, the Committee provided strategic
oversight of employee engagement, leadership capability and
talent development, alongside workforce transformation and
compliance with employment equity and broad-based black
economic empowerment requirements. Particular attention was
given to representation trends, the development of future talent
pipelines and the retention of key skills. The Committee also
reviewed labour relations across the Group and was encouraged
by the generally stable labour environment and ongoing
constructive engagement with employees and organised labour.
More information on our safety performance and programmes can be found
throughout the Integrated and Sustainability Report.
Protecting human rights and promoting an
ethical culture
Maintaining a strong ethical culture and respecting human rights
contribute to responsible corporate citizenship and sustainable
value creation. During the year, the Committee oversaw the
Group’s ethics and human rights approach, including the approval
of an updated Human Rights Policy and continued focus on
strengthening ethical leadership, accountability and a culture that
encourages employees to speak up.
The Committee also monitored the effectiveness of Sasol’s
ethics management processes, including the EthicsLine reporting
mechanisms, anti-bribery and anti-corruption programme, and
broader initiatives aimed at preventing misconduct, protecting
human rights and fostering trust among stakeholders.
For further information on Sasol’s approach to ethics, human rights and anti-corruption,
refer to pages 140 – 143 of this report as well as the Business Human Rights Report
available on our website.
The Committee remains focused on ensuring that Sasol continues
to build the capabilities, leadership and inclusive culture required
to support organisational resilience.
The environment, climate advocacy, health, public
safety and consumer relationships – navigating
development responsibly
Sasol supports the objectives of South Africa’s Climate Change
Act and its associated regulatory instruments, including the
Nationally Determined Contribution and the carbon budget
framework, as important components of the country’s transition
to a lower-carbon economy. We recognise that this transition
must be pursued in the context of energy security and in a
manner that is just, inclusive and supports sustainable economic
development. Sasol’s policy position and engagement approach
is set out in the updated 2026 Climate Advocacy and Policy
Supplement, which guides our alignment with national and
international climate policy developments.
During the year, the Committee also provided strategic oversight
and guidance on the implementation of Sasol’s emissions
reduction roadmap. A key area of focus was the evolving
environmental regulatory landscape, particularly developments
relating to the Highveld Priority Area Air Quality Management
Plan, proposed amendments to minimum emission standards and
the implications of these developments for Sasol’s operations
and ambitions. The Committee also monitored progress
against key environmental priorities, including greenhouse gas
emissions reduction, water stewardship and security, and broader
environmental compliance obligations.
Recognising the importance of maintaining stakeholder trust,
the Committee also considered product stewardship, product
quality and plastics sustainability initiatives, while continuing to
oversee the integrity of sustainability commitments and related
disclosures. As expectations continue to evolve, the Committee
remains focused on ensuring that Sasol responds responsibly to
environmental challenges while creating sustainable long-term
value for stakeholders.

roadmap, water stewardship, product stewardship and sustainability initiatives, refer to
pages 92 – 114 of this report.
Our continued engagement and positive impact on
communities
Strong relationships with our host communities remain central to
Sasol’s long-term success. The Committee continued to oversee
the Group’s contribution to social and economic development,
recognising that meaningful engagement, responsible corporate
citizenship and lasting partnerships are essential to creating
shared value. By strengthening these relationships, we not only
support community wellbeing but also reinforce the foundation for
our own long-term success.
During the year, the Committee considered the progress of a
range of community initiatives, including education and skills
development programmes, the Bridge to Work programme,
community health initiatives and projects aimed at improving local
infrastructure and supporting youth development.
The Committee was encouraged by the positive impact of these
initiatives and by the recognition Sasol received as a leading
contributor to socio-economic development.
Listening to stakeholders, responding to legitimate concerns and
creating shared value remain important to maintaining trust and
strengthening Sasol’s role as a responsible corporate citizen.

initiatives, refer to pages 126 – 139 of this report.
