Secunda hosts one of the world’s largest
synthetic fuels and chemicals facilities.
Govan Mbeki Local Municipality (GMM) is a South
African Local Municipality situated in the Gert Sibande
District Municipality of Mpumalanga, with Secunda as
the seat of the municipality.
Sasol’s Secunda Regional Operations in Mpumalanga
remains one of the company’s flagship operations.
We collaborate with government, business and
social partners on a range of initiatives that enable
municipal infrastructure delivery and maintenance,
education and healthcare, as well as developing
local entrepreneurs.
According to the census of 2011, the area has a
population of about 294 538 and the predominant
languages spoken are Zulu, Afrikaans, Southern
Ndebele and Sotho.
The Integrated Development Plan (IDP) is a joint
initiative with local government that brings together
key stakeholders to engage and prioritise areas
of need.
